Acne during your teenage years can be quite embarrassing and difficult to deal with. Though nearly everyone experiences acne to some degree during puberty, that doesn’t make it any more enjoyable. The main comfort during this time is the hope that you’ll eventually outgrow your acne and finally experience the flawless skin you’ve been longing for. Unfortunately, when you reach adulthood, you realize that your dreams don’t always match your reality, at least when it comes to a lack of acne. To help you make these dreams come true, then, here are four measures you can take to help prevent adult acne.

Chill Out

One common cause of acne is increased stress in your life. If you have a job or other life situation that seems overwhelming, the stress that results can result in many negative health consequences, including acne. In some cases, you may not even “feel” stressed, yet still have deep-seated, subconscious stress that is causing issues. To help reduce your stress, it’s important to take an inventory of your life to find areas that seem out of your control. Then, to help you move forward, you need to work to gain control of these areas or set them adrift, altogether.

Modern Measures

Though acne is an ancient problem, that doesn’t mean it requires an ancient method of prevention. A modern solution, such as red light therapy, can help increase the health of your skin, boosting collagen and elastin, all while enhancing the effectiveness of other skin treatments. Added to the acne-fighting power of blue light treatment, you can experience fast results and finally regain that confidence you’ve been lacking.

Eating Right

Another common cause of adult acne is a poor diet. If you consume excess amounts of sugar, fat, and other unhealthy substances, then one way your body may process these unwelcome visitors is through the creation of extra skin oils. These oils can lead to blocked pores that can ultimately lead to adult acne. Of course, eating right has many more benefits beyond clear and healthy skin, but it is certainly a great hidden perk.

Stay Clean

Speaking of skin oils, a great way to help prevent adult acne is to wash your face regularly. When washing your face, you want to be sure not to scrub too hard, as this can damage your skin and make it more susceptible to the acne you’re trying to prevent. By doing a quick wash twice a day, though, you help ensure your pores stay clear and that any toxins on the surface of your skin are removed in a timely manner.

Just Be You

No matter what stage of acne prevention or treatment you find yourself in, it’s important to feel comfortable in your own skin. True friends will love you just the way you are, no matter what types of issues you’re dealing with. Of course, the confidence that comes from acne-free skin is certainly desirable, so changing your lifestyle in order to see the results you’re after is perfectly acceptable and encouraged, so long as you’re doing it for the right reasons.
