Aging is a natural process and we cannot escape it just like death. As our age increases in number, our body also starts showing tell-tale signs. However, this may not always be the case. Sometimes, our chronological age doesn’t align with our biological age. The reason is excessive sun exposure, unhealthy diet, poor lifestyle choices, and environmental hazards. Due to these factors, we may need to undergo an anti-aging treatment sooner than we anticipated.

Now, we may not be able to completely escape aging but we can definitely slow down the process. And how we do that, you might ask. So, by making healthy choices in terms of our diet and lifestyle we can prevent early aging.

In this article, we have listed down the food items that you need to avoid as they speed up the aging process. And we guarantee you may find some of your favorites on the list.

Food Items Responsible for Early Aging

Some of the most commonly consumed food items that can make our bodies age early include:

  1. French Fries
  2. White Bread
  3. White Sugar
  4. Margarine
  5. Processed Meat
  6. Deep-Fried Food
  7. Caffeinated Drinks
  8. Alcohol

Let’s discuss all of them one by one in detail and see if we can use any alternatives.

  1. French Fries

French fries and potato chips are the guilty pleasure of millions around the globe. While they may be one of the best tasting food items ever, they are not so good for your health. Generally, fries are deep-fried and salted. Both these factors rank very high among the aging suspects.

If you simply cannot stay away from your love for fries, try switching to baked or fried sweet potato fries. They may not be as fulfilling as the conventional fries but they are rich in anti-aging copper. So, as they say, you win some, lose some.

  1. White Bread

Yes, we hear you. What threat could plain, old white bread be to the aging process? Well, as innocent as it may seem, it has a high glycemic index. This means it contains carbohydrates which when combined with proteins, cause inflammation in the body. Hence, accelerate the aging process. They are also dangerous in terms of causing chronic diseases.

You can switch to whole grain or sprouted grain bread that does not have any added sugar. Moreover, they contain beneficial antioxidants that keep the skin looking fresh.

  1. White Sugar

Let’s just state it plain and simple – sugar is harmful to our bodies. Yes, we said it. White sugar has been always been controversial in terms of causing so many skin-related problems. One of the most common problems caused by consuming too much sugar is acne. Apart from this, it damages the collagen and elastin, which in turn speeds up the aging process.

Not just for skin, sugar has also proved to be bad for our bodies. A number of diseases are triggered due to the excessive use of white sugar. So, if you want to stay young for a long time, eliminate white sugar from your diet. However, whenever you crave something sweet, eat fruits or dark chocolate. You can also add honey instead of white sugar in your drinks and food.

  1. Margarine

Too much margarine can never be good, in life and in diet both. According to studies, people consuming large quantities of margarine tend to have more wrinkles and weary skin than those who don’t.

Margarine contains a high quantity of partially hydrogenated oils. Due to these trans fatty acids, our skin becomes more vulnerable to UV rays. As a result, we end up damaging our skin collagen and elastin.

You can use olive oil or avocados as an alternative for margarine.

  1. Processed Meat

No matter how scrumptious it tastes, processed meat is not your friend. Bacon, sausages, hot dogs, and pepperoni are all our favorites, too. However, they can speed up the aging process and we may need our anti-aging treatment very soon if we keep consuming them.

All types of processed meat contain high quantities of sodium, saturated fats, and sulfite. These items are notorious for causing dehydration and inflammation. So, stick to leaner meats, like chicken and turkey. They have natural proteins and amino acids that can keep the collage intact.

  1. Deep-Fried Food

Nothing good can come out of too much oil. If we talk about fast food, it is also deep-fried in corn oil. According to experts, it is one of the unhealthiest oils. When food is deep-fried, it exposes fat and oil to extremely high temperatures, forming free radicals. These free radicals are responsible for aging.

Moreover, deep-fried food is not only a threat to our skin but to our overall health, too. It increases the risk of cardiometabolic disorders, diabetes, obesity, high blood and cholesterol problems, and even heart attack. So, do we need to stress it even more?

  1. Caffeinated Drinks

Caffeinated drinks, such as soda, coffee, and energy drinks, are not directly linked to accelerating aging. They affect our sleep cycle. This means that if we keep consuming them in excess, it will ruin our natural sleeping cycle. As a result, we will sleep less or at odd hours. This type of sleep schedule has proved to accelerate the aging process. So, indirectly caffeinated drinks are linked to the aging process, too.

When we don’t sleep comfortably and regularly, it can speed up our aging process. Dark circles, baggy skin, wrinkles, fine lines, and puffy eyes can result from this.

  1. Alcohol

While alcohol can help you forget your worries for a while, it does more harm than good. And drunk dialing our exes is not the worst of it.

Alcohol has some serious effects on our skin. It can damage some of the most important nutrients of our bodies, like vitamin A and water. Excessive alcohol consumption can cause severe dehydration. Moreover, vitamin A is responsible for producing new collagen. So, alcohol can damage the two most important nutrients of our bodies and leave us with redness, puffiness, and wrinkles.

The Final Verdict

To sum it all up, if we want to delay undergoing anti-aging treatment we need to stay away from an unhealthy diet. The above-mentioned food items are just some of those and before you cut it all out of your diet, you should consult a nutritionist. Some people may not be benefited by cutting some items from their diet. So, consult an expert and make an informed decision.
