Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a derivative of the cannabis plant that has proven effective in treating some medical conditions and symptoms. Unlike tetrahydrocannabinol or THC, the more commonly known derivative of cannabis, CBD does not offer psychoactive changes known as highs. However, CBD oils have been shown to reduce pain levels caused by muscle tension and join disorders and as they can contribute to migraines, some sufferers may get relief from CBD.

Known Benefits

Currently, there are no known studies that indicate that THC alone can relieve migraine symptoms. This may be due in large part to the fact that the product has not been studied as a migraine treatment. However, CBD is being put to very good effect by those who suffer from spinal pain or neck damage that can lead to muscular tension. As this tension can often lead to or exacerbate migraine flare-ups, the foundation has been laid for further study.

Purity is Key

Limited studies and disjointed regulation across the United States may make it hard to find a pure CBD source. For sufferers ready to try CBD, it may be best to purchase a full spectrum CBD tincture from a seller recommended by a medical professional. Check the medical marijuana laws in your state to determine what, if any, licensing requirements there are and purchase your oil from a shop that offers pure product.

Those who suffer from chronic conditions may find themselves having to self-medicate. This is particularly true for those who are concerned about opiate use and abuse. To determine if CBD oil can help you fight your pain, keep a journal of your dosages, your reactions and your pain level over time. Because of the confusion over the properties of CBD oil, it’s best if you start with small dosages and track your reactions over time to determine the best individual course for your pain.

Drug Interactions

CBD oil is a drug and should be treated with care lest you suffer a dangerous drug interaction. Discuss your intentions to try CBD oil to manage your pain with your physician before purchasing the product to make sure that you are not putting yourself at risk. If you are trying to wean yourself off of opioid pain medications, understand that opiates are extremely addictive and your withdrawal symptoms may impact the effects of CBD to reduce your pain. Pain is personal. Migraines are debilitating events that can impact every factor of your life, from work to family to community. If your migraine pain management medications aren’t working or are putting your health at risk, CBD oil may be able to help.
