Back pain is something that everyone wants to avoid. Back pain can be excruciating and affect your ability to perform daily activities in a normal way. 1) Poor Posture When Standing & Sitting
Poor posture arches the back and does not allow the spine to straighten properly. This can lead to discomfort in your lower back. Always sit up straight when sitting and keep your shoulders back and your weight equally distributed on both feet when standing.
This is especially true during weekends, when we try to maximize our free time doing things we love like sports, gardening, working in the garage, or hiking. There is a lot of bending, arching of the back, and sitting involved in those types of activities.
Try to do a series of stretches when you start your day, so your muscles are loose and ready to undertake activity safely.
2) Lifting Things The Wrong Way
There is a right and a wrong way to lift things, and most people do not do it properly. Many people bend their backs when reaching down, but you actually need to keep your back straight and bend your knees instead. This will keep your spine in alignment and prevent it from experiencing strain.
3) Working Long Hours
Sitting for long hours in front of your desk will cause back pain because the back becomes stressed and cannot maintain a regular circulation of nutrients in the body.
Get into the habit of getting up and moving around every once in awhile. Take a 15 minute break and take a quick walk. Go to your break room and stand while enjoying a beverage or snack break. You can even stand while typing.
4) Careless Lifestyle
Being careless when participating in activities can lead to injuries and accidents. If you are not careful when driving, for example, you can end up in a car accident. If you are not careful when you are cleaning your house, you can pull a muscle when you are lifting and moving things.
