EYE OPENING Homeopathy Statistics: Bigger Than You Think!
In many places in the world such as the United States, people may know what homeopathy is, or at least have an idea of what it is. But many do not realize how popular and common homeopathy is in the world at large today. Looking at the homeopathy statistics will probably shock you!
The World At Large
According to the World Health Organization, homeopathy is the second most used system of health in the world (ahead of both western medicine and Chinese medicine). It is by far the fastest growing health modality in the world, with millions of people per year trying it out.
Over 200 million people in the world use homeopathy regularly. It is also a part of many countries’ health care systems, including:
Homeopathy in India is virtually just as used, if not more so, than allopathic medicine by its citizens. 100 million Indians rely on only homeopathy for their own health.
India has over 200,000 licensed homeopaths, and approximately 12,000 more are added each year.
29% of Europe’s population (100 EU citizens) use homeopathy for their general health. 40 out of 42 European countries practice this holistic system of healing.
In France, Oscillococcinum is one of the most used and sold over-the-counter medicines in the country. Many physicians either refer patients to homeopaths or use homeopathy themselves.
In the UK, 6 million British citizens (10% of the population) uses homeopathy, and the market for homeopathy grows by about 20% each year. 400 doctors in the UK use homeopathy, and there are about 1500 practicing homeopaths.
There are also 5 homeopathic hospitals that utilize homeopathy in treating people.
Although lagging behind other countries, homeopathy has been growing steadily in the United States as well.
Over 6 million people in the United States use homeopathy for various chronic and acute uses (1 million are children; the rest are adults).
In addition, there has been an increase in the use of homeopathy in various medical settings. Numerous integrative medicine clinics are opening up more than ever, using homeopathy. Hospitals such as Beth Israel Hospital in New York use homeopathy in their outpatient clinics. They also have nursing programs that provide courses on homeopathy.
In cases like mine for example, some medical clinics invite homeopaths to work with their patients.
With new technological innovations and medical research conducted almost every year, Israel is a very underrated medical powerhouse in the Middle East.
Israel also happens to offer government covered health care for homeopathy in certain settings. When I visited Israel in 2016, many of the locals explained to me how several Israeli clinics offer homeopathy and even Chinese medicine, covered by the government. This done alongside conventional medicine as well.
When looking at all the statistics, it’s amazing to see how homeopathy is growing by leaps and bounds. Despite the attacks of skeptics (many of whom have incorrect misconceptions), homeopathy continues to thrive.
It continues it’s mission of providing quality natural, holistic care and support to those who need it. As my colleague and head director at Immedicenter Dr. Basista has said to me before: “holistic medicine (including homeopathy) is the medicine of the future.”
