How many times have you heard someone say that they would start working out? Or perhaps you yourself have made that promise, but failed to deliver? Excuses are always there: lack of time or money is probably the most commonly used one, but they are just that – excuses.

Truth be told, you need to be really motivated to take up exercising, knowing that it’s something that will bring about significant changes to both your lifestyle and daily routine. Unlike going to the dentist, it’s not something you do twice a year, just to check how fit you are, but it involves a long and uninterrupted process. So, what is it that we can do to get that motivation without which we’ll never be able to get in shape?

Vague goals don’t work. Feeling fitter or healthier is not a goal. Losing a certain amount of kilograms is. Being able to do a certain number of push-ups or run a distance are also very good goals. Write them down as a reminder why you’re doing all this and revert to them often.

Set up a buddy system

It’s always more fun to work out in company of someone you like. Find a friend or a family member willing to join you. You’ll be less likely to give up, since you’ll feel as if you were betraying a dear person. That way you’ll be much more motivated and diligent when it comes to fulfilling your “obligations”.

It may seem ridiculous, but even the smallest treats go a long way when it comes to becoming and staying motivated to work out. For example, buy yourself some items from the wide range of clothes or footwear offered by famous Nike and you’ll feel much better and readier to work out.

Make a plan

You can’t just play by ear when it comes to working out. It has to become part of your daily routine, carefully planned. Set aside enough time to exercise and calculate the time you need to drive to and from the gym, so that there is no overlap with other activities. Create regular events in your calendar and make them non-negotiable!

Music helps a lot

Most people feel more motivated and energized if they work out to the beat of their favourite songs. So, create a playlist if you’re working out on your own or if you don’t like the music in the gym. With so many good wireless headphones designed for people on the move, you’ll be able to exercise and enjoy the music without any problems.

You may find it very expensive to always work out with a trainer, but hiring one every now and then is fantastic for your motivation. They will be able to correct any workout mistakes you’ve be making and get you back on track. That will lead to better results and we all know that success is the best motivation.

More and more people are relying on gadgets to help them work out. They use the challenges feature to compete against other enthusiasts, which significantly increases their motivation. Just keep your fitness tracker charged regularly and you’ll see the difference in no time.

One of the ways to get more motivated is to look at the time spent exercising as “you” time. This is your mental vacation, when you don’t have to worry about anything else, but focus on breathing and any activity you might be doing at the time. If you see working out as a treat, rather than a chore, you’ll realise how beneficial it really is, both mentally and physically.

Finding motivation is sometimes difficult, but if you really want to do something for yourself, you simply have to find it. You may have to dig deep at times, but don’t give up. Remember that what you’re doing is good for you and that it will help you stay healthy and fit and we all know that you can’t put a price on that.
