Acne is usually associated with teenagers. It’s quite a normal thing for a transforming young body that goes through a hormonal storm. The overly active sebaceous glands produce more fat than ever. This fat mixes with the dead epidermal cells and everything that can contaminate our skin and blocks the skin pores. This is how pimples appear.

As you are a teenager, you can’t wait to become an adult when this problem won’t bother you anymore. But the time flows and your pimples are still with you. You try different skin care products that attract you with promises in their advertisement, diets to control your sebaceous glands and what not. But they’re still there.

Don’t Do This to Your Pimples!

If you haven’t been to your doctor with your skin problems, you should go. Acne in adults is a condition that should be medically treated. It can be a symptom of hormonal imbalance like polycystic ovarian syndrome or an infection of your skin (Streptococci or Staphylococci).

And no matter how desperate you are, you should be very careful with home remedies against acne. Some of them can slightly improve the situation, but some can make things actually worse. Below is the list of things you should never EVER do to your skin if you suffer from acne.

Hands off!

Although popping pimples is very popular and can even bring you some twisted kind of pleasure, there are many reasons why you shouldn’t do it. First, it’s the best way to transfer infection on your face from your hands. Second, popping pimples, especially cystic ones, may lead to scars. Third, it makes your infection go deeper into your skin. If that pimple bothers you so much, let a professional help you get rid of it.

No essential oils

No matter how helpful essential oils may be, it’s totally not an option to treat acne. Your skin is oily enough without them. They will only block your pores and make things worse. Besides, they are highly allergenic, even those that are famous with their antibacterial effects. Yes, even the coconut oil that is an absolute trend nowadays.

Toothpaste is for teeth

An old method to dry your pimples by applying some toothpaste on it and hold it overnight doesn’t work. Moreover, toothpaste can irritate your facial skin. There are medical skin products for such targeted action, but only your doctor should prescribe you these.

No alcohol too

Don’t use any products that contain alcohol over your face. You may have heard that applying some alcohol on your pimple overnight can work like toothpaste (well, this is true, because they both don’t work at all). In the case of alcohol, you are more likely to boost the activity of your sebaceous glands which you don’t need. In the worst case, you will have a chemical burn on your face.

What to do then? Your options are special skin products prescribed by a doctor, proper treatment and a healthy diet. If you want to buy skincare products for your basic daily routine, choose those that contain retinol and are marked as non-comedogenic.
