You wake up with a pounding headache, stomach problems, and an utter lack of motivation for the day ahead. Last night, you had a few too many drinks and now you are battling a crippling hangover. Although there is no magic bullet solution leading to an immediate recovery, there are still plenty of holistic home remedies for hangovers to alleviate these symptoms and have you feeling much better soon.
Water is an obvious hangover cure, but it absolutely needs to be included on the list due to its importance.
A large amount of the discomfort you feel during a hangover comes from the aches and pains caused by dehydration, a condition water mitigates.
Drinking your recommended 6-8 daily glasses of water during a hangover will help your body flush out some of the impurities that drinking has created.
It is usually hard to get a good night’s sleep after drinking heavily, due to the fact that alcohol is a diuretic. That means that it makes you want to pee more often, leading to frequent bathroom trips throughout the night.
Despite this, if you have the time and ability to go back to sleep, you should absolutely go for it. Sleep gives your liver time to rid your system of alcohol. The body does a great job of healing on its own, and the more time you give it through sleep will only lessen your hangover symptoms.
After a big night of drinking, there is a good chance that working out might be the last thing on your mind. While it will be hard to find the motivation to get yourself out of bed and to the gym, even getting in a light workout can make you feel better.
Physical exercise releases endorphins in the body, making the individual feel better. Exercisers will also feel better about offsetting some of the calories that they ingested during drinking.
4. Detox Baths
Taking a holistic alcohol detox bath is a simple yet effective way to ease your hangover troubles. All that takes is some hot water and minerals or Epsom salts, and you have a muscle relaxing, toxin-clearing detox bath.
You can upgrade your bath by adding essential oils such as lavender, which can make it even more soothing.
Adding something more spicy, such as cayenne powder, mustard powder, or wasabi, might help to improve the circulation of the blood. With better circulation, your liver is better able to remove waste from the body more quickly.
5. Herbal Tea
Ginger has long been used as a tool to reduce nausea and vomiting. Incorporating ginger in tea is a tasty way to kill pain and reduce the amount of stress on the digestive system. It has been proven to end headaches and ease stomach ailments.
Drinking peppermint herbal tea helps to keep the intestines relaxed by soothing irritation. It also helps to clear the high levels of anxiety that can be associated with hangovers.
