In our modern fast-paced life we are constantly frantic and under pressure. This lifestyle inevitably leads to regular stress, headaches, and overstrain of the whole organism. To avoid these negative consequences it is important to incorporate some leisure into your busy schedule. Effective ways to deal with stress are described below.

1. Quality Sleep

Quality sleep consists of a normalized schedule of night sleep and the presence of daytime sleep. Scientists believe it is necessary to sleep during the day. This helps to remain productive throughout the day, increases mindfulness and helps to reduce muscle and psychological stress. Taking a nap also activates the process of body regeneration. In order to get an exclusively positive effect from daytime sleep, you need to sleep no more than an hour.

There is also the discussion of duration of night sleep. The majority of sources claim that you need at least 8 hours of sleep, but in fact, 6 hours is enough for a healthy person. Some studies even suggest breaking sleep into several phases throughout the day instead of one at night. According to these studies, the waking time is increased to 20–22 hours and the remaining 2–4 are allocated for sleep.

It is important to sleep on a comfortable bed with a good mattress and not eat before going to bed. Otherwise, the body spends energy on digestion rather than restoration. As a result, you won’t get enough sleep and start to rapidly gain weight, since lack of sleep contributes to the production of ghrelin- the hunger hormone.

2. Swimming

The sound of the water is relaxing to our mind. The cold temperature of water helps relax muscles, relieve back pain, and normalize sleep. Swimming can also be a gentle alternative to the gym as the load is approximately comparable but is distributed more evenly, especially if you swim with a breaststroke or on your back. Swimming is also perfect for weight loss.

3. Fitness

High-quality physical activity helps to keep the muscles toned, in addition to having a positive effect on psychological conditions such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, and more. Fitness helps maintain the normal functioning of joints and muscles, accelerate metabolism, and strengthen the immune system.

4. Acupuncture

Acupuncture helps relieve muscle cramps that cause pain. Accurate pressure on painful points can neutralize stress, pain, cramping, and improves blood circulation. Acupuncture also helps with the spine problems which usually require surgical intervention (hernia, displacement of the disc). This method allows to regain your health without lying down under the surgeon’s scalpel. It is important to find a quality acupuncturist who knows where to prick.

5. Alcohol

In moderation, alcohol can provide enjoyment and even health benefits to your life. It is proven that a glass of dry red wine improves the general condition of the body, improves digestion, and increases the production of enzymes in the liver, which is responsible for body detoxication.

The same applies to a bottle of beer after a working day on Friday helps you relax, relieves fatigue, and helps to fall asleep faster.

6. Reduce Caffeine Intake

Caffeine is a stimulant found in coffee, tea, chocolate, and energy drinks. Its high doses can increase anxiety. People have different limits for how much caffeine they can tolerate but if you notice that caffeine makes you nervous or anxious then try to decrease its consumption. Although many studies show that coffee can be beneficial for health in moderation, this is not true for everyone. In general, five or fewer cups per day is considered a moderate amount for a healthy person.
