Stay Hydrated

 

Much like a hard workout, illness can drain your body by using up a lot of the water in your system. This is why you need to make sure to rehydrate yourself if you want to get back on your feet quicker.

 

You can’t force this all at once, though. For example, you can’t drink five glasses of water in one sitting and call it a day – your body won’t absorb most of the water you drink that way. Plus, one sitting of water won’t keep you hydrated for very long.

 

As a more effective alternative, try sipping water throughout the day. This way, you are getting the water you need and your body can absorb it better.

 

Eat Right

 

Another important thing to do is make sure your body is getting the nutrients it needs through your diet. This means that you should make sure you’re eating the right foods and avoiding unhealthy foods right even more when you are recovering from an illness.

 

What Should You Eat?

 

When you are trying to bounce back from illness, you should lean towards foods that are high in nutrients. Fruits and vegetables, for example, are a good choice. Certain meats are also good since they are high in important nutrients like protein. Certain vitamins and energy supplements may boost your immune system and help you get back on feet much quicker.

 

What Should You Avoid?

 

A healthy diet isn’t just about eating healthy foods, though. You should also make an effort to avoid unhealthy foods as well. When you exercise, your body naturally tries to make up for the energy you’re burning. If you are trying to produce energy, regular exercise can make you feel surprisingly refreshed. This is because it gets your body working and helps it try to naturally make up for the fatigue you’re feeling.

 

Don’t overdo it, though. Start small and move up – yoga is a great place to start for many people because it doesn’t expend too much energy but still gives you a good workout. Remember, if you have been ill seriously or for a long time, it’s best to check with your doctor to make sure you don’t have any limitation on what you can do.

 

Try Not to Over-Exert Yourself

 

When you are starting to get back from an illness, don’t do too much at once. For example, you don’t want your first day with a clean bill of health to last 20 hours. This is a great way to end up sick again!

 

Instead, start with what you have to do and add more to your schedule once you’re feeling up to it. For instance, begin with a regular work day and see how you feel. Once you’re feeling a little stronger, you could try adding dinner plans after a work day. Take baby steps when you are trying to get back into your full schedule.

Naps Aren’t Bad

 

Many people look for ways to get around simply giving their body rest when recovering from an illness. Unfortunately, there are few things that do a recovering body as much good as some old-fashioned rest.

 

This doesn’t necessarily mean you should stay in bed all day, though. A more convenient alternative is to usually take a few “power naps” when you get overworked during your recovery period. For these, you should lay down for 20-40 minutes and you’ll be surprised at how rested this short period of time can make you feel.
