6 Amazing Natural Ways To Fight Depression

Natural Ways To Fight Depression

In this article, I want to share with you my six best and natural ways to fight depression.

As mentioned in previous articles, depression can have a major effect on our lives and can really bring us down on all levels – physically, emotionally, mentally, and even spiritually.

Those affected with depression will have no desire to accomplish anything nor will they have any motivation whatsoever to make a difference in their lives or in the lives of others.

Depression can be caused by a variety of emotional, mental, & physical factors

More than that, depression can be very dangerous in numerous ways. Job losses, troubled marriages, and possibly suicide, Heaven forbid, are just a few of its consequences.  In short, it converts what we call “life” into “lifelessness.”

At times, it’s usually the core of many of our issues, if not another major symptom of a deeper, underlying issue of our life. Regardless, it’s a major issue that has drastic effects and affects much of the world we live in today.

Which leads to why I am continuing to write about this topic. It’s such a widespread issue in today’s world and many people have a tough time to deal with it.

Conventional methods such as anti-depressants and therapy can be temporarily helpful, but they may not necessarily alter the major, underlying issues that are feeding one’s depression. They simply just suppress for the time being until there’s another depressive episode.

At the same time, not treating depression on a more profound level can only suck a person deeper and deeper into depression until he/she is stuck in a metaphysical depressive hole and cannot escape, much like a person trying to escape from a blizzard where there’s 20 inches of snow.

So…What Can YOU Do??

In my humble opinion, there are numerous safe, natural ways to fight depression.

One should use a method that obviously suits best, but as a human being that has had many ups and MANY downs in life, I can personally attest to the fact that many of these natural ways to fight depression have helped me tremendously.

Here are six of my favorite tips:

#1 – Homeopathy

Ok, I guess given the name of this website and the other content, you probably guessed that I would pick this :).

But seriously, besides for acupuncture, which actually works in a similar way, homeopathy can heal one’s depression by directly aiming at the core of the issues involved, by giving a boost inspire both body and mind to heal on their own on all levels.

I’ve written on the topic of homeopathy and depression as well as the clinical research supporting it.

#2 – St. John’s Wort

Also known as the Hypericum perforatum flower, St. John’s Wort has been used for thousands of years in Europe to treat chronic mild to severe depression. The flower itself contains natural, herbal anti-depressants that can help combat depression.

It works by inhibiting the uptake of certain neurotransmitters in the brain that affect happiness.

Several studies, including the 2008 Cochrane Review have demonstrated the effectiveness of St. John’s Wort in treating depression in humans.

Today, it’s sold in the USA and Europe in liquid or capsule form, and the flower itself may even be used in tea.

However, due to potential side effects, speak with your healthcare professional before considering St. John’s Wort.

#3 – Find a Purpose

Most people today don’t know why we are in this life. Furthermore, most people have the belief that the main purpose of life is the pursuit of material, temporary things [temporary as in only available for this lifetime], such as money and having children.

These pursuits may be fine, but they do not constitute a lifetime goal or purpose. Hoards of people have money, a wife, children, etc., but they still fill unfulfilled and have a void feeling in their life, which can lead to depression. If things like these were the ultimate purpose of life, then everybody should be Natural Ways To Fight Depressionable to attain these things and feel complete!

Don’t get me wrong. It is vital to have a solid livelihood, marriage, children, and similar necessities. The point I’m making is that as an ultimate purpose of life—it’s very usually NOT the case.

When one discovers his or her purpose, mission, lifetime goal, one has a reason to live, to work, to function, and to positively contribute to society as a whole.

One will feel that he or she is making a difference in the world for the better, and will thus enjoy participating in this purpose and derive pleasure from it.

It is for whatever purpose you have that you were put into this world.

This is your life goal and mission and it is up to you to work on it and to achieve as much as you can while working on it, though perfection isn’t expected. Do you really think you were created here for no reason? (which scientifically is about a trillionth of a percent).

A person’s purpose can be several positively impacting things. How to know what is depends on your interest and inclinations.

Following and utilizing your interests, captivations, and inclinations towards something positive is the best way to find your purpose and pursue it. When one does something, like a job, that he or she enjoys, then he or she will have the most success in it.

If don’t believe me, then Google some psychological studies on this. Many have shown that people who love their jobs earn more income than those that don’t.

Here are some examples of what a person’s purpose in this world may be:

  • spreading awareness of a certain disease or world issue
  • volunteering for a special cause.
  • helping others and/or charity.
  • tapping into religion and/or spirituality.
  • to be a doctor, homeopath, or other healthcare professional that helps others every day.
  • developing beneficial  services  or technological advances.

Whatever floats your boat ;).

#4 – Prayer/Spiritual Contemplation

Prayer and or spiritual contemplation are great aids for depression on even a practical level.

When one is praying, one is essentially communicating with G-d [For non-monotheists, you can interpret this part as you please].

One prays to G-d because he or she knows that G-d is the Ultimate Source of Blessings and Support anybody can have from anything in this universe.

It’s very much like a son-father relationship. No matter what, G-d loves His children, mankind, and unconditionally takes care of us.

When one has this Infinite Support System to rely on for both good and not-so-good times, it can relieve much of the pressure and negativity a person goes through. One realizes that he is not in control of everything, rather G-d is, and He knows what’s right and not right for our entire well-being. Natural Ways To Fight Depression

Additionally, with a strong connection to G-d, one will come to the realization that everything He does is for our very best and any situation we are in, no matter how positive or negative, is for our own benefit AND for our self-improvement.

As a strong believer in G-d, I can attest to the fact that my connection and growing knowledge of G-d is the best thing that has ever happened in my life.

I have seen how this has helped me overcome negative feelings such as depression throughout life’s challenges.

It has ultimately led me to recognize G-d in my daily life.

I thank G-d everyday for everything I have, and as much effort as I put in my everyday schedule, I always rely on Him for blessings and goodness.

Some see prayer as a mumbling of random, nonsense words, yet if we only know the significance of our prayers and what they can accomplish on a spiritual, psychological, and even physical level, we would be shocked and probably wouldn’t stop ever with our prayers.

There are numerous, witnessed stories of figures such as authentic spiritual leaders, authentic Kabbalists (not Kabbalah Centre), and even regular simple people whose sincere, heartfelt prayers have impacted others significantly. You can Google and see for yourself.

See one amazing story here of how true prayer can literally alter reality.

#5 – Talking to Friends and Family

For social support, talking to friends and family about your issues is definitely very helpful in dealing with your depression, and for that matter, other issues too.

Friends and family understand you better than others and know your personality and how it works. Out of love, they can help talk things out with you and help you find a path or constructive solution to overcoming any difficulties in life.Natural Ways To Fight Depression

Many times, your loved ones can cheer you up in a variety of ways that they know ameliorate you, and they may even be able to show how your reasons for being depression shouldn’t lead you into that path.

Also, even just to socially hang out with friends and/or family is very beneficial. Go out to a sports game or restaurant. Take a walk in nature. Share jokes.

When one is in the company of another person, the attitude and energy of that person can influence the others. This applies both to people in positive and negative states of being.

#6 – Music

Music is one of the strongest, non-tangible items we have in this world. The melodies, tunes, and connotations of any musical symphony can bring up deep emotions.

Music can cause us to move ecstatically, to be joyous, or to contemplate deeply.  Or the opposite. This is because music is a vehicle to express our inner selves and states of mind.Natural Ways To Fight Depression

With somewhat of an ease, positive, upbeat music can uplift a victim of depression from the pits of gloom to the highest levels of happiness while connecting to the depth and intensity of a particular song.

Of course, the right music is needed for this. Play music that’s fun, upbeat, happy, the kind that makes you wanna get up and dance or do something pleasurable or productive. Don’t play gloomy, slow, negative lyrics.

The Proven Effectiveness of Homeopathic Medicine For Depression

homeopathic medicine for depression

In a previous post, I discussed several of the best of acute homeopathic medicine for depression. To view them, click here.

I also mentioned how the homeopathic treatment of depression gently addresses the underlying, core issues behind the person’s depression. This is unlike antidepressants, like Prozac, which will not only just suppress one’s depression for a limited period of time, but it may cause undesired side effects.

This makes one’s depression even more unbearable.

If you don’t believe me, then see this article by nutrition and health research expert Jon Yaneff who writes about the clinically proven dangers and side effects of antidepressants.

He writes how the FDA is hiding these facts and preventing the truth about them from coming out.

That being said, there is much research supporting homeopathy’s efficacy against depression.

The studies below are blinded, controlled with placebos, and in some cases are even shown to work better than drugs.

One of the studies posted below are the same as one of the studies examining homeopathic remedies for anxiety. It’s posted here again with an asterisk [*] since it also tested out Homeopathy’s efficacy for depression.

Here are some of the studies officially published as of this date:

Study #1

Researchers: Davidson, Morrison, Shore, Davidson, Bedayn (all M.D.’s.)

Year: 1997.

Publication:  Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine, Duke University Medical Center.

Participants:  A tiny sample of 12 adults suffering from serious depression, social phobia, or panic disorder were given individualized homeopathic treatment either upon request or as per a doctor’s recommendation after receiving partial or zero treatment from conventional medications.

Participants received treatment for between 7-80 weeks. The assessment of their respective treatments were monitored by several measuring scales.

Results: Roughly 60% of the participants reported that were successfully treated of their respective symptom[s].

Study #2

Researchers: U. C. Adler, N. M. P. Paiva, A. T. Cesar, M. S. Adler, A. Molina, A. E. Padula, and H. M. Calil.

Year: 2009.

Publication: Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine.

Participants: 91 depressed patients with mild to severe depression were either given an individualized homeopathic remedy or Prozac to treat their depression.

The experiment was “prospective, randomized, double-blind double-dummy” and it lasted for 8 weeks. The Montgomery & Åsberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) was used to measure the levels of depression for each person.

Results: Based off the MADRS scores, both the homeopathic remedies and the Prozac scored similarly at the 4-week (P = .654) and 8-week mark (P = .965).

The only major difference was that the Prozac patients reported substantially more “troublesome” side effects and a higher percentage of Prozac patients stopped their Prozac intake, compared to the patients taking Homeopathic remedies.

Study #3

Researchers: de Menezes Fonseca GRM, de Almeida Bolognani F, Durão FF, Souza KM, Accioly MCC, Bagarollo FM.

Year: 2008.

Publication: Int J High Dilution Res.

Participants: In this pilot study, 30 autistic Brazilian children were given individualized homeopathic remedies alongside organotherapy to treat psychological disorders, including depression. Several clinical statistics were used to measure their levels of depression both before and 4-10 months after treatment.

Results: All of the children experienced solid improvements in the healing of their depression.
