How to make a healthier barbeque.

Nicole Richie once said that everything that’s goodinlifeis either immoral, illegal, or fattening – and we have to agree. Fortunately, when it’s time to make a delicious barbeque, you don’t have to settle for the one that will necessarily make you fat. Preparing a mean barbeque could remain what you’re famous for and you can keep it as one of your favorite meals if you find a way to prepare it in a healthier way. Here’s how you could do it:

Korean style

Most people can’t imagine a nice beef steak or a burger without a proper bun. To be honest, it’s easier to eat your burger when the bun is holding all the ingredients together; it would take much more effort to add ketchup, mustard, barbeque sauce, vegetables, and dressings without it. Unfortunately, all these things that go with your perfectly grilled meat are more harmful for you. When grilling at your home, you can skip buns and opt for lettuce leaves instead. Yes, Korean barbeque uses bigger lettuce leaves instead of bread slices, and you can put some onions, green peppers, and add some freshly grilled meat on top.

Do not marinade the meat

Even though you might have a favorite recipe you swear by, it might be a good idea to change it a little bit and sacrifice some of that signature taste if it means that you’ll be eating a healthier dish. A nice marinade will give the meat a special flavor, but it will also make it absorb more unnecessary fats, regardless of what oil you choose to use. However, you can still sprinkle a bit of salt on meat and add some garlic, black pepper, and parsley, without using any oil. If you leave it like that for 15 to 20 minutes, the salt will cause the meat to let go of some of its natural juices and your barbeque will still keep a nice flavor you love.

Use good quality equipment

Depending on your personal taste, grilling the ingredients for a short while will make your food keep some of its vitamins and nutrients. Grilled meat has lower levels of bad fats and calories, but if you prepare it in a ‘bad’ was, it can have a bad impact on your overall health. If you prepare a barbeque outside, ensure you use stable and properly maintained grill wire. Do not lower your meat too close to the fire but don’t keep too far either. Keeping the right heat is the key for a well-made barbeque. If you like grilling in the comfort of your own home, you should buy cast iron cookware, because it will help you prepare your meals quickly. The benefit of using this instead of electric barbeques is that you use what you already have at home – an induction cooker or gas.

What you grill makes a difference

If you are a hot-dog or a burger person, we have some bad news for you: meats and sausages high in fats are full of bad cholesterol which becomes even more harmful when heated. You should eat steaks, chops, and chicken breasts because these are healthier. Consider adding more vegetables such as bell peppers, mushrooms, and onions. Put them on kebab sticks and add some olive oil as a protective layer for vegetables, otherwise, it will get burned quickly.

While many believe that barbeques are unhealthy, they don’t have to be. If you worry that a healthier one won’t be as delicious, we dare you to try out some of the things we suggested and see for yourself just how good a healthy barbecue can taste.
