Research Clears Doubts on Homeopathic Remedies for Anxiety

14.7.2015 | 18:50

I have to admit.

While investigating studies that either support or deny Homeopathy’s ability to treat acute anxiety, it was very difficult to find clinically valid studies that met the standards necessary to demonstrate accurate findings.

boy-428378_1280Many studies only used one remedy for all patients with different symptoms, or they weren’t randomized and/or compared to a placebo or conventional drug, or they were simply biased. These aspects are very important in finding a solid study, whether published from homeopaths or M.D.’s.

Nevertheless, I was able to filter out what appeared to me as 4 fair clinical studies that clearly demonstrate the efficacy of Homeopathic remedies for anxiety:

Study #1

Researchers: Davidson, Morrison, Shore, Davidson, Bedayn. All M.D.’s.

Year: 1997

Publication:  Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine, Duke University Medical Center

Participants:  A tiny sample of 12 adults suffering from serious depression, social phobia, or panic disorder were given individualized homeopathic treatment either upon request or as per a doctor’s recommendation after receiving partial or zero treatment from conventional medications. Participants received treatment for between 7-80 weeks. The assessment of their respective treatments were monitored by several measuring scales.

Results: Roughly 60% of the participants reported that were successfully treated of their respective symptom[s].

Study #2

Researchers: Paolo Magnani, Anita Conforti, Elisabetta Zanolin, Marta Marzotto, Paolo Bellavite. All M.D.’s

Year: 2010

Publication: Psychopharamcology

Participants: Five different doses of Gelsemium Sempervirens [4C, 5C, 7C, 9C and 30C], the drug buspirone, and a placebo were respectively given to 3 different groups of mice to during a period of 9 days. The mice were examined for the treatments’ effects for anxiety through open field and light-dark tests in a “blind and randomized fashion.”

Results: Overall, Gelsemium proved to significantly decrease anxiety amongst the mice and it created almost no side effects for the mice, more so than the buspirone and placebo.

Study #3

Researchers: Oberbaum, Schreiber, Rosenthal, Itzchaki. Schreiber is a M.D. and the others are I believe are homeopaths.

Year: 2002-2003

Publication: Homeopathy

Participants: 15 Israeli construction accident victims suffering from acute anxiety were treated by a combined team of Israeli homeopaths and ER responders. When brought to the hospital, they were each first treated with individualized acute remedies at a 200c potency, depending on each person’s specific manifestation of anxiety. After 1 day, they were each given specific chronic homeopathic remedies based on the totality of their present symptoms.

Results: After the initial acute treatment, most of the victims reported less pain, 58% felt improvement,  89% claimed to have less anxiety, and generally speaking, 61% of the victims felt that Homeopathy was helpful. After administering the chronic treatment, that number rose to 67%.

Study #4

The following study was found at homeopathiccoach.com by Sam Adkins, the British “Homeopathic Coach.” Though the study posted seems to be a valid clinical trial, it regrettably does not show a source of reference. I have asked her for the exact reference, and when or if I do receive it, then this section will be modified accordingly.

I apologize for the inconvenience.

In the meantime, here is the part of the post:

A randomized placebo controlled (but not double blind) trial with 60 subjects was conducted in France with patients suffering from anxiety in which half were given a homeopathic formula marketed as .L.72.2 in France and .Anti-anxiety. in the USA, while the control group was given a diazepam (Valium) (Heulluy, 1985). “The results indicated that L72 was as effective as diazepam on all measures.”

As you can see, there is substantial, valid clinical research that supports the fact that   Homeopathy can treat anxiety symptoms and disorders just as well, if not better, than conventional drugs. All without side effects and high costs.

Now that you’ve seen some of the evidence, it’s time that you check out some Homeopathic remedies for anxiety relief. To see the remedies, click here!
