It’s easy to learn how to take homeopathic remedies, yet it can get complicated if not taken the right way.

At first, many people think that taking a remedy is like taking any other medicine. Just pop it in your mouth and that’s it! Little do most people know, it’s a bit more complicated than that.

In fact, whenever people receive remedies, they always ask me tons of questions on how to take a remedy.

This is why I wrote this post today, so that you can have a clear and easy step by step guide that will make this easy for you.

I will show you how it’s really done so you can get the most out of any remedy that you need to take.

What Form Do Remedies Come In?

Homeopathic remedies can be taken in two basic forms: pellets and to take homeopathic remedies

Pellets are more commonly used since they have the energy of the remedy in its purest form and are ready to use at many pharmacies.

Water is sometimes used in order to minimize homeopathic aggravations, especially for people that are sensitive.

Why Take It In Those Forms?

I wrote here about how homeopathy is an energy based system of healing.

This means that the homeopathic remedies use the energetic properties of various material matter to assist a person’s health by rebalancing the body’s energy.

Like a switch, the remedies simply inspire the body’s vital force in order to revitalize itself, which manifests into gentle and holistic healing on all levels.

After undergoing the complex process of making a remedy, this energy (which is different depending on the type of remedy and its potency) is contained in either  pellet or water form.

The pellets or water are just the receptacles for the energy to stay enclosed in before they are used homeopathically.

Taking A Remedy in Pellets

Taking a remedy in pellet form is very simple. Here’s how you do it:how to take homeopathic remedies

  1. Remove the pellet from the vial into the vial’s cap.
  2. While the pellet is in the cap, place the remedy under the tongue.
  3. Let the remedy rest under your tongue until it completely dissolves.

After you take the remedy, you should NOT eat or drink anything for about 30 minutes.

This way, the remedy’s energy will be able to work fully into your body’s systems without any interference.

How To Take a Remedy in Water

There are many ways to do this, but here’s easiest way that you can take a remedy in water form for each dose:

  1. Take a glass and fill it up with 8 ounces of water.
  2. Put just one sugar pellet into the water.
  3. Wait for the sugar pellet to dissolve fully into the water.
  4. Then mix the water with a spoon at least 10 times.
  5. Take a spoonful of water from the solution and swallow it.

Unlike taking sugar pellets, you only need to refrain from eating or drinking anything until 5 minutes after taking the remedy.

If you are taking another dose, simply mix the water solution again 10 times and then consume a teaspoon of the water

What to Avoid After Taking a Remedy

Contrary to popular belief, there aren’t a lot of things you need to stop eating, drinking, or doing, while on a homeopathic remedy.

There are 3 things though that you should definitely try to avoid:

  • recreational drugs.
  • strong, medicinal herbs.
  • unhealthy diet.

So other than that, you can enjoy your coffee and do the other things that you enjoy and make you feel good.

  • Hi there, thanks for this great article. I used to take a lot of homeopathic remedies when I was a kid. Forgive me If I am wrong but I think they are god alternatives to many problems that some doctors treat with normal medicine. It doesn’t have side effects I suppose.

Interesting to know you cannot earn after 30 minutes. I remember I had to follow this rule. Its also good to know I can drink my coffee as normal.

    Thanks for that

  • Hi,

Glad to stumble on your site….I was thinking of taking homeopathic supplements to help me sleep better.

I do not consider myself an insomniac, but if I break my routine I have a hard time sleeping.

I don’t like to take any medications, or supplements. But I am willing to try as I had few friends suggesting homeopathic remedies.

    Any suggestions for sleep problems?

  • Hello,

Well I have to admit, I thought I understood this type of treatment, or what I thought was a treatment but it seems I’ve been mistaken. I had no idea this was something you put together at home vs. just going out and buying it in a local store.

How long have you been using this approach to healing? It sounds quite interesting to me due to having a wife that suffers from various mental health issues. She currently suffers from anxiety, as well as being sleep deprived at times. I would love to move her off the medically prescribed medicine at some time in the future, and this sounds like a possible direction I’d like to research. Besides what you’ve shared so far, are there any other great sources to research to know which remedies to take for certain?

    Wishing you all the best,

    • I have been studying homeopathy so far for about 3 years & have just started taking in clients under supervision practice. And I have used homeopathy for myself and others for years.

If you are interested, I can try to help your wife with her health issues.

  • Hello, Ariel!

Very good article! Sometimes people forget that there is an alternative to doctors and prescription drugs to help your body cure and fight off some less severe ailments. Do you have any brands in particular that you prefer? I’m sure a lot of others would be willing to take your recommendation of brand.

Happy to see so many others writing about alternative medicines and remedies!

    • I have no preference…each remedy needs to be individualized for the person, not the disease. Thank you for great feedback

  • Natural medicine has always been an interest of mine and I love learning anything new to do with it.
I hadn’t heard before about waiting at least 30 minutes before eating after using homeopathics, I will definitely keep this in mind and see if I can feel a difference.
I have a cold at the moment so I can test this out straight away. Thanks 🙂

  • I love your site. Full of good information and I learned too that drinking coffee won’t cancel the remedy which I was taught by a holistic dr from the UK that it would. I also searched what cancels a remedy a few times in the past just to be sure and read that too. How can others be wrong?

I have sent you site to a dear friend (Julie) in hopes she will contact you for her hyperthyroid and other health issues. She was interested. I know you can help her 🙂

Thanks again for ALL you help on her!

    • Although coffee is considered an antidote to remedies, it doesn’t always happen. It really all depends on if coffee in general doesn’t go well with a person (which is more of a lifestyle adjustment). From my experience and even the experience of my mentors, many clients treated with homeopathy did very well even while drinking coffee. Therefore, I am personally NOT particular about a client stopping their consumption of coffee.

I really appreciate the referral and I look forward to working with your dear friend Julie. Thank you for the opportunity!

  • Thank you for a wonderdul site full of information! I was wondering if Nux Vomica and Sulphur can be used concurrently? I am a long time sufferer of insomnia and both of those treatments seem to fit the description of my insomnia. Recently I stopped taking a sleeping aid as it was having a rebound effect but now I am back to not sleeping through the night. I went through 2 weeks of withdrawls from the sleep aid but now I no longer have the excessive day time sleepiness it was causing. I just can’t sleep at night and haven’t most of my life. 🙁

    • Hey Abigail,

Thanks for visiting my site! Your insomnia seems to be more chronic in nature, which usually is just a branch of your overall mental, emotional, and physical imbalance, and would require holistic treatment from someone like a homeopath or acupuncturist. I will send you an email to explain more.
