Many hairstyles damage hair follicles. High ponytails, tight French braid or cornrows, all these fancy hairstyles bind hair tightly and damage the roots. This condition is called traction alopecia. It is imperative to understand that if follicles are damaged, the hair loss can be permanent.

  • Medications

A person undergoing medications like chemotherapy or radiation therapy is most likely to experience a huge amount of hair loss. This hair loss can occur anywhere in the body. Although the hair starts growing again once a person stops the medication intake it still takes a long time for the head to cover up with long hair. This type of hair loss is referred to as anagen effluvium.

  • Stress

It plays a major role in the health of your hair. Stress causes hair to get thinner resulting in temporary hair loss. This hair loss is called telogen effluvium. This is often an after the cause of surgeries, losing weight, illness and having a baby.
